"Losers Weepers #3" risograph comic by J.T. Yost
Before emails and texts took over the world, people wrote notes and letters to each other. I used to pick up anything that had hand written text on it. Nine times out of ten it was a boring grocery list or instructions in how to get somewhere (pre-GPS), but every once in a while it would be something fascinating. A peek into someone else’s life.
“Losers Weepers” was born from my curiosity about this scavenged detritus. I’ve woven a fictional story around actual letters, notes, and journals (which are included within the comic itself). Each issue can be read as a stand-alone story, but there is an overreaching arc within all issues.
Issue #3, originally published by Birdcage Bottom Books in 2011, has been reprinted using color risograph printing. This long-out-of-print issue is a limited edition of 100. By reprinting it, I’m hoping to encourage myself to finally finish the final issue that pulls everything from previous issues together into a satisfying conclusion!
In this issue, Álvaro Martinez suffers casual racism, finds out his mother is in jail, discovers a salacious letter written to his girlfriend, and suffers even more not-so-casual racism from an officer of the law.
